Note: We know we said see you next year, but we just couldn't resist the creative itch. Naledi and I drafted this literally a day after her B.day as a review for the blog :-) Enjoy!
Anyway, we decide to go for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3D. Firstly, I had no clue that the movie was in 3D or that it made use of actual people.
A reboot of the traditional film series, the movie makes use of new characters such as Whoopi Goldberg and Megan Fox. Although, having watched a movie like Spy Kids 3D, it seems Teenage Mutant lacked in creating the perfect illusion. When I'd remove my 3D spectacles, the vision would be blurry, when replaced, the vision became normal, barely 3D, barely 'touchable'. Only the rain and snow looked real, and minor things like weaponry.
The cinematography was cool, simple, clear and not too dramatic in its action. It's quite the kick-punch sort of film mixed with a lot of humour to candy coat the vigilante thug connotations. Otherwise it left us laughing for the most part. Not your typical on-the-egde-of-your-seat action. It's watchable.

Tshego and I went to go see Teenage Mutant
Ninja Turtles last night for my birthday and these are a few of the things I
took note of about the movie: My first observation was of the lead actress, played by Megan Fox, who in my opinion, is really flying the flag high for brunettes being recognized as sex symbols in the entertainment industry. Which frankly I think is a breath of fresh air from the proverbial and stereotypical hot blonde girl.
I also mentioned to Tshego that the movie had a sense of cultural appropriation with regards to the black culture in how they presented the young ninja turtles.

How they were portrayed was in the sense of
young comedic vigilante thugs anonymously fighting crime in order to protect
the city they live in. Giving me the idea that they could have used four black
men and all that’d change would be the title of the movie. So I wouldn't call
this a must see and wouldn't recommend spending money on watching it unless
there really is nothing else to watch. And even in that case, I’d suggest you
watch something you've already seen as you wait for a movie worth your time to
be released.
