Movie Review - Dumb and Dumber To 2014

Last week Friday I had a whole cinema to myself, with 2 or 3 more viewers, watching my all-time-favourite movie [a sequel]. This is definitely one of the events going into my highlight of the year list.

First off, I'd like to say that I'm a proud Jim Carrey fan and that just last week, I told myself that I HAVE to go see Dumb and Dumber To, and since we're such movie fanatics here at RVL, we thought why not give it another whirl?!

The old classic best-buddy relationship never seizes to astonish me. This is the epitome of goofy, stupid, quirky and ridiculously humorous pranks, mixed with more imaginative scenes where both characters slip into daydream and nostalgia.

The movie begins with Harry going to visit Lloyd at a psychiatric hospital. Lloyd has spent the last 20 years pretending to be in oblivion, basically a vegetable - as a prank to Harry. Look, I was already laughing at the silliness of Lloyd's beard.

But you know, not much has changed in the movie regarding Lloyd's and Harry's appearance. They still look the same; their hair and clothes are still as scruffy, they're both still quite dumb, although, Lloyd seems the smartest - the irony. They're love for costume and playing pretend is very much relevant and evident. Their small room apartment is still quite popular with white walls and two hideous, brown couches. The blind boy who loves birds is also there - grown up of course with more birds to his possession. Who could forget the dog-looking van? Oh it's there alright!

I especially love how they've merged the whole idea of the 20 years since the 1994 film with the reality of the movie with Lloyd being in hospital for, well... 20 years; bridging the movie world with our reality. Sort of involving the fans much closer with the story.

I don't want to give too much away, but there are some new elements, artistic elements to the movie, which make up for the lack of OTT we had in the previous versions. You see those had my pancreas almost at its peak of hysteria. And I think it's safe to say that this could have been better by just a notch! But I'm still a fan regardless.

So, if you love your indie films, your Napolean Dynamite, nerdy kind of looking characters. This one's for you.
