Interview with South African band, Dipopaai

"Dipopaai is an animated South African audio-visual band that offers a relevant yet sometimes quirky take on everything that makes up this lovely rainbow society!! #DP"

R V L: Tell us about the band, Dipopaai. Who's all part of it and when did it start?
Dipopaai: The team consists of six guys, namely: Tweezy, Thiaps, Chapterz, Bringo, B1 and Stheebo. And we started last year October.

R V L: Dipopaai means Caratoons. What inspired you guys to go for that name and also to incorporate animation with music?
Dipopaai: Exactly that, incorporating animation with music.

R V L: Streaming some of your tracks on Sound Cloud, I could pick up a lot of old school Kwaito. Who influences the sound that you make?
Dipopaai: Everyone and everything.

R V L: Your content is also very playful, fun and quirky, with a taste of bo mapantsula - Do you guys see yourselves as the next Alaska :p ?
Dipopaai: No, we are the next Dipopaai.

R V L: Tell us more about Gym Sessions. What was the creative drive behind that?
Dipopaai: Gym sessions is just us at a constant work-out, man, creatively speaking - preparing and getting ready to go out there.

R V L: Your designs are beautifully composed with fresh, attractive colours. Very simple too. How important is visual art when it comes to compiling a musical package?
Dipoapaai: It's imperative.

R V L: Are you currently in works for upcoming projects? Are there any artists that you’re planning to feature?
Dipopaai: Yeah we cooking up some stuff, and yeah, whoever is dope enough to spaan (work) with us.

R V L: What’s your relationship with music like?
Dipopaai: GODLY (Nswembu).

R V L: What would you say to people who want to start bands?
Dipopaai: Ah, start them.

R V L: Where can the public reach you?

Dipopaai: Google, Dipopaai.
